Money values

Money values are one of the types of Field values.

They are nearly identical to Number values except that they have one additional option: to specify the type of currency that an amount of money is in. If you use multiple currencies in your data, Dabble will treat each one separately when making calculations so that financial data is preserved.

Converting a field to have a money value

You can change a field to have a money value using the Field configuration. When you do this, existing data in the field will be converted. If a field contains some text and Dabble cannot find a number in it, it will warn the user that the field contains Invalid data. When you enter new data into a number field, the same behavior will apply.

Please see Number values for more information on how numeric data is used in Dabble or for the numeric options available in the Field configuration. You can use money fields as you would any other numeric field — to create subtotals and Formulas, or to filter.

Specifying currencies

In the Field configuration for a money field, you can specify a list of currencies for data entry. The default list is USD, GBP, CAD and EUR. (These are the official abbreviations for U.S. Dollars, British Pounds Sterling, Canadian Dollars and Euros, respectively.)

When you edit an entry, you can change what currency a money field value represents, using the list provided in the configuration. When Dabble makes mathematical calculations like subtotals or averages, it will make separate calculations for each different currency in the data and the subtotal at the bottom of a column will show these separate amounts.
