Add filter

Filters control which entries are shown in a particular view. There are several ways of adding new filters.

From a column in a table view

In a Table view, each column (except the summary column) has a menu which includes the command Add filter. Clicking this menu item adds a filter on the left of the view specific to the data in that column. Once you have added the filter, you can edit it by typing or selecting what to include (or exclude).

In Calendar view or Compact view, you have to switch to Table view before you can add filters from visible columns.

While editing an entry

When you edit an entry, there is a shortcut button next to each field value to add that particular value as a filter. This will restrict the view to entries that have that value in that particular field.

Type a filter by hand

You can always add new filters to a view by typing into the box beside the Add filter button. In general, you can simply type words and numbers that you want to match. You can also filter for the values of specific fields using the syntax “Field: value”, and add mathematical comparisons like “Field: < 10” and “Field: >= 99”.

When you type a word that Dabble recognizes as a field or column in your view, each matching field or column will appear below the search box. Click the Filter button beside the match to add that filter. Or, if you simply want a keyword search, click Search.

See Value filters for more advice on how to write filters.

Filter a group

If your view includes grouped entries, you can quickly filter the view to only those entries in a particular group. Click the filter button next to the group header and Dabble will apply the appropriate value filter (since each group corresponds to a specific field value among entries).

Apply multiple category filters

If any of the entries in your view are in Multiple categories, you will have the option to add additional category filters. (The option will appear below the existing filters.) This will restrict the view to entries belonging only to both or all of the categories.
