Choice values
Choice values are one of the field value types. They allow you to supply a predetermined list of options for a particular field.
Creating a choice field
Fields generally start out having a text value. To change a field to have a choice value instead, open the Field configuration and, under Type of value, select Choice.
Choice options
Drop-down menu or radio buttons
Choices can be presented as a single drop-down menu or as multiple radio buttons. With a drop-down menu, the user must click the menu to see all the choices, but it takes up only one line of space. Using radio buttons shows all the choices at once, with empty circles beside each one. The user can click the one he/she wants and a filled circle indicates the selected choice.
Regardless of which format is used, only one choice can be selected at a time.
Default to the first option
If this is enabled, then each new entry with this field will have it pre-selected to the first choice in your list. Otherwise, each new entry will have no choice selected (a blank option).
Allow new options to be created at any time
If this is enabled, a user with the appropriate access level will be able to select “Other” and add a new choice instead of choosing one of the existing options. If this is not enabled, only the specified choices specified will be available.
Entering new choices
You can type new choices, or copy and paste a set of them into the box under Enter new choices. Each choice should be on a new line.
Editing and re-ordering choices
Under Edit choices, all of the choices currently available are shown. You can edit the text to change a choice. To re-order choices, drag the arrow icon beside a choice and move the choice up or down. To delete a choice, click the X icon beside it. When you delete a choice, any entries with that choice will be marked as invalid.
About converting to a choice field after there is already data
If you change an existing field to choice values after you have already added data, the system will use all of the existing values to create the new list of choices. In other words, existing data will be maintained and it will be easy to re-use the same choices for new entries.
Conversely, if you change a choice field back to another type of field, the choices will be converted back into regular text again.
