Configure categories

The category bar near the top of the window shows the Categories in your application. Open the More menu and click Edit categories to open the category configuration.

The Edit categories link

The category configuration is a table of the categories in your application, showing for each category: the name, how many entries are in it, whether to show it on the menu (the yellow bar) and a link to delete the category. You can also add new categories and re-use or share categories from other Applications in your Database.

Category names

To change the name of a category, simply edit or replace its name in the box under the Name column. When you are finished (including any other changes), remember to click the Done button at the bottom of the screen. If you wish to cancel changes you have just typed, simply press your browser’s back button, or select a view from the yellow bar (without clicking Done).

Show Menu

The check box in the Show Menu column indicates whether you want the category to appear on the yellow bar at the top of the application. By default every category will appear on the bar, but if you have many categories you may wish to hide some of them if they are less important or they do not have any saved views attached. You must click the Done button at the bottom of the screen to save any change to the show menu status.

Create a new category

To add a new category to your application, type it into the box below “Create a new category” on the right and click Add.

Remove a category

To remove a category from your application (including the associated data), click the delete icon (X) on that particular row. You will lose all of the entries in that category if they belong only to that category. Entries that belong to Multiple categories will be preserved, however they will lose the fields and data associated with this category. (Note that there is an Undo option, but it is only available temporarily until you make the next change.)

Categories shared from other applications

If you have other applications in your database, you will see categories from them below the box to add a new category. Clicking any category will add it and all of its entries to the current application, which allows you to share data between your applications. Find out more about shared categories.
