Inverse fields

Inverse fields are related to Link to entry fields and List of entries fields.

When you create a link or list field, you are creating a relationship between entries. For link fields, it’s a one-to-one relationship (i.e. entry A links to entry B). For list fields, it’s a one-to-many relationship (i.e. entry A lists entry B and entry C).

If you enable the Show other side of link option in the field configuration, Dabble DB will create the “inverse” relationship as well. For link fields, entry B will link back to entry A. For list of entries fields, entries B and C will link back to entry A.

This inverse field takes the name of the category by default, but you can change it.

If you delete the inverse field, the original link/list field will be removed as well.

Read the example below for a clearer idea of how this works.

Example of an inverse field

In a project management application, you might have a view of projects. Each “Project” has a list of entries field called “Participants” which lists all of the people working on that project. Each of the people is an entry in a “Person” category.

If Show other side of link is enabled, the “Person” entries will have a “Project” field showing which project or projects each person is working on. If a person is removed from a project, the project will also be removed from the person (or vice versa).
