Pivot columns

In a Table view, the rows always show individual Entries while the Columns show data from those entries (usually Fields or derived data like Formulas).

In the Compact view, there are no individual entries — only groups of entries based on a particular field value.

If you have more than one level of grouping, it may make sense in certain compact views to pivot one of the groups so that the data is arranged in columns rather than in rows. (You can only pivot when there are two or more levels of grouping.)

How to pivot

To pivot one of the groups in a compact view, click on the header of the column containing the group to open the column menu. Click the Pivot link. The view will reload with the groups rotated 90 degrees and the remaining columns re-aligned.

Pivoting a group affects the other columns showing subtotals from each group. For each group of entries previously represented by a row, there will now be a column, and so for each original subtotal column there will now be multiple “sub-columns” showing the subtotal for each group. In other words, the resulting view will have fewer rows and more columns.

If your view has more than two levels of grouping, you can pivot as many of them to columns as you like so long as one group remains in the original horizontal position (represented by rows).

Pivot Table
A pivot table provides a useful summary of detailed data.
