Save view
Views are the basic workspace of Dabble. You can create as many different views as you need to see different parts of your data, or even to see the same data in different ways.
When you have configured a view in a way that is particularly useful, you can save the view so that you can access it again later and so that other users of your application can use the view as well.
Saving a new view
To save a view that has never been saved, click the title “Unsaved View”. A box will open with space to type a name for the view. Choose a name that will be meaningful to all users who have access to the application. There are some options you may choose (see below) before you click Save.
From now on, the view will appear on the drop-down menu of the primary category that is used in the view. For example, if your view contains entries in a “Person” category, it will be saved in the Person menu. (The primary category is whichever category you filter first. If no category filter is used, or if the primary category is not on the category bar, the view will only be accessible from All views.)
Modifying a saved view
Once a view is saved, you can still make changes to it. These changes will be remembered for you but not for other users — only when the view is saved again will changes you have made appear for all users.
Dabble indicates that a view has been modified since you saved by displaying: Modified: Save, Revert or Save As…. If you wish to save changes permanently, click Save. If you wish to go back to how the view was when you last saved, click Revert. If you wish to save the view but keep the original copy you saved, click Save As…. The save box will open again and you can type a new name before pressing the Save button.
Saving options
If you want to include more information than you can fit in a name, you can add a note that will appear underneath the title when the view is open.
You can also select several other options while saving:
- Use as Home designates this view to be your Home view — the first view you see when you open this application.
- Use as Default… View designates this view to be the default view whenever you create a new view in the same primary category.
- Lock View ensures that only an administrator can make changes to a view. Normally, anyone who can make changes to data can save changes to views.
