Sharing

Dabble is designed to be a collaborative system. Applications created by you or others can be shared with different Users and with the public. You can also share individual Views using Pages. To share a view quickly, click the Share button (below the view name) and then select New page.

Only administrators can control how, and with whom, each application is shared.

To edit the sharing preferences for an application, move your mouse over the Sharing menu, and select Users.

Users

The users configuration shows you which users currently have access to an application, including yourself, and also users to whom you have sent an invitation but who have not yet registered.

Each user is identified by his or her email address, and their access level (see below) is shown. You can change the access level of anyone other than an administrator.

You can also click Re-send an invitation if you wish to send another email to someone inviting them to use Dabble and this application.

To remove a user from an application, click the X beside the user’s email address. (You cannot remove a fellow administrator except by using the settings for the database.)

Add users

On the right is a box in which you can type or paste email addresses of people you would like to add to an application.

To add users:

  1. Type or paste each address on a separate line in the box.
  2. Select from the drop-down menu the level of access you wish to grant (see below).
  3. Click Add users.

Access levels

  • Read, write and build allows users full capabilities to view and edit data and the structure of the application, including adding and deleting Fields, Entries and Categories.
  • Read and write allows users to edit data, but they cannot alter the structure of the application by changing categories or fields.
  • Read only allows users only to see existing data but not to edit it or add new data.
  • Pages access only allows users to access only specified Pages that you build and make available.

If you wish to add a new administrator to an application, you must do so from the settings for the database.

There is a setting you can change which affects public access to your application’s data:

Allow public access to exports

If this is enabled, exports of views that you have saved can be bookmarked and accessed over the web by anyone who knows the correct address of a particular export.

The export addresses for a view are not easy to guess (each view has a long, unique numeric ID), but if you are concerned about data security, you may wish to keep this disabled. In that case, only someone logged in to Dabble can access the exported data.
